East Coast Music Award Nominee Cyril MacPhee's clear rich tenor delivers a blend of Celtic and Acadian sounds with maritime folk, contemporary country and rock in unexpected yet pleasant ways. Cyril MacPhee produces a marriage of traditional styles and modern instrumentation that is both lively and enjoyable.

"MacPhee's rich tenor voice and presentation show influences of Canada's great Stan Rogers, but Cyril is no imitator. His songwriting shows a personal insight on human nature that is second to none."
Mark Horn, June 1998. The Mining Co.

Cyril MacPhee . . . an unmistakable pure tenor and excellent musician who plays rhythm and bass guitars. A talented singer-songwriter, his poetically evocative songs possess a lyrical cadence and melody. Cyril's distinctive interpretations of traditional music and the material of other songwriters shows his ability to take someone else's song and make it truly his own.

Growing up as the seventh child in a musical Cape Breton family, Cyril was immersed in kitchen ceilidhs. He remains deeply dedicated to friends and family, making his home near St. Peter's, Cape Breton Island. Cyril was heavily influenced by his father's Cape Breton fiddling; Irish, Scottish, Country and Bluegrass music as well as the songwriting of the late Stan Rogers.

Cyril has been playing professionally since the age of eighteen. In addition to his solo album and recordings with Brakin' Tradition, his previous group, Notework, was featured on a National CBC recording with members of the Nova Scotia Symphony. He also made a guest appearance on fiddle virtuoso, Ray Legere's album, Back Against the Wind. As a solo artist he has performed with Natalie MacMaster, John Allen Cameron and Ray Legere.
